Blood diamonds: a theme of the past?

Blood diamonds relate to the wars in Angola, Sierra Leone, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic.

For many years, it was closely connected to his image on the so-called blood diamonds or conflict diamonds. But Sierra Leone, West Africa, takes measures recently, to remove the image of war.

Right in the area where the conflict began in 1991 - and where the majority of the diamonds - it is not by chance, a Israeli company began a new work in a mine of this gem in the East of the country.

The plant is part of a wave of foreign investment in mining, roads and buildings that have changed the face of Sierra Leone in recent years, such as by Mark Doyle, journalist for the BBC in Koidu in the East of the country.

But it is also a stark contrast of artisanal mining of which thousands of people only in the area of the main hang, where the new plant.

Digging and searching for diamond screening is a strenuous work, but for many is more of the poor of the world in one of the countries work.

A new beginning
